Former Rovers Striker Pondering Future Plans

After leaving Tranmere earlier this season, striker Simon Haworth is still unsure of his future with football. Haworth has always been a big fan of horse racing, which he feels is an option he can go into.

If I said to you, a club has just released their striker, who the season previously scored 25 goals, you would think the club was mad. But this is what Tranmere done, and really, through no fault of their own. A horrific injury, as much as, ended a career of a prolific scorer. In the 2-2 draw with Brentford, Simon Haworth fractured his leg in two places. And hasn't fully recovered since, the injury is coming towards two years now.

Whereas most would sit there and feel sorry for themselves, Simon hasnt. He has looked into new ways to get up of his feet and earn a living. He owns a horse along with former Tranmere and Wales team-mate Gareth Roberts. And this is something Simon thoroughly enjoys.

Although, he is finding himself new things to do, he admits that the temptation of football will always be there, and also hasn't ruled out a comeback when he is 100% fit.

Talking to TEAMTalk, Haworth said : “I want to carry on playing in some capacity but the leg's not looking too good at the moment, but I certainly couldn't sign for anyone at the moment so I'm in no-mans land a bit."

Haworth currently runs a corporate hospitality business with former Wigan team-mate Gareth Griffiths. Simon also says how much he is enjoying this new lease of life, and something new for him to desire.

"It's going okay and we're involved with racing, football and boxing,"

Haworth signed for Rovers on the 1^st March 2002, for a lump sum of £125,000. Altogether Simon made 89 starts for the club, notching up an impressive total of 34 goals , 25 of which came in one season.
