Davies seemed to come the attention of Rovers fans at the start of the current pre-season campaign when he fired a brace of goals in Rovers 3-0 win at Vauxhall Motors in their opening friendly of the season.  He made a further name for himself by scoring a last minute winner in the home friendly against Premiership Manchester City.

17 year-old Davies, who has been at the club since he was 14, has played in youth team and reserve matches for Rovers last season and has been attracting interest from Liverpool. He played no part in the friendly games at either Marine or Morecambe in midweek and this heightened speculation that he was set to leave the club.

However to the delight of Rovers fans and Manager Brian Little, Davies has now committed himself to the club until 2008.

Speaking to the Official Tranmere Website, Brian Little said “I am delighted that Steve has committed his future to Tranmere Rovers. He has made considerable progress over the last 12 months and this has become very public recently since training and playing with the first team pre-season. He has a very bright future and I see him forcing his way into the first team in the near future.”

Lorraine Rogers added “Steve Davies is the latest young player to progress through our youth development system to the first team squad and this shows the Club's commitment and investment in this area. We are all delighted for him.".
