Sunderland Join Owls In Chase For Tranmere Star

While Tranmere have now sold a player, in Ryan Taylor, who was being linked with every club possible, its now another Rovers star that is being linked with a move away.

Last week Tranmere accepted a £500k bid for striker Iain Hume, which would have meant him going to Hillsborough and playing for Sheffield Wednesday. But the move broke down, with Hume unable to agree personal terms.

Great news for Tranmere fans! Or is it? This seems to have triggered the ears of other clubs awaiting in the dark. To most fans, £500k seemed very cheap for a striker of Hume's calibre and future potential.

Newly-promoted Premiership outfit, Sunderland, seem to be hot on the chase of the Canadians signature. The Black Cats were reported to have increased their bid for the striker, the offer was a lot like the bid that tempted Rovers to let Ryan Taylor go to Wigan.

Sunderland were believed to have offered £700k upfront, with it increasing depending on the appearances and goals scored.

Hume has become a firm fans favourite with his pacey runs and ability to score from anywhere on the pitch. Perhaps selling the youngsters will help Rovers financially, and to plough into new players to take the league by storm. But what happens if it backfires? No one can deny the talent Taylor has, and how big a part of the club he was last season.
