Hume on his Way after Leicester City Bid

On a day when Rovers have signed a striker, they look set lose possibly the most important striker of all after Championship side Leicester City had an offer accepted for the Canadian International. Sadly for Rovers fans after much speculation the end of Hume’s Tranmere career seems to be upon us.

He’s been linked with Sheffield Wednesday, Preston and Wigan in recent times but now it Iain Hume has definitely left Prenton Park bound for Championship side Leicester City.  After Rovers announced the signing of striker Delroy Facey from Oldham earlier today, rumours again began to surface that Hume would be on his way out of the Club.  This time it seems that those rumours will come true and Hume is leaving.

 

The deal with Leicester is thought to involve an upfront payment of £500,000 with another £250,000 to be paid if Leicester get promoted to the Premiership.  Tranmere will also get 10% of any sell-on fee for Hume in the future.

 

It is thought that despite recently turning down a move to Sheffield Wednesday and earlier this year Preston, Hume’s wish is to play at a higher level and subject to personal terms and a medical he looks set to do this with Leicester.

 

There is no doubt that debate will rage for many weeks over why he has to be sold and whether or not it was the right thing for the Club but at this point in time it is best to say a fond goodbye to one of Tranmere’s most talented players of recent years.

 

He will be probably most fondly remembered for his extra-time cracker that won Rovers a third round FA Cup tie at the Reebok Stadium against Bolton Wanderers but he had many other great moments in the shirt of Tranmere Rovers.  His winner against Swansea City – also in the FA Cup was similar to that which he scored at Bolton and was another memorable goal.

 

Last season he scored a neat backheeled goal at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday as Rovers won 2-1 and as well as being remembered for scoring goals he will also be remembered for creating them.  The most fondly remembered assist for many will be the run and cross for Gary Jones to score in the FA Cup quarter-final replay against Millwall at Prenton Park that just for a while gave Rovers fans the hope of an FA Cup semi-final at Old Trafford.

 

Total Tranmere would like to say the biggest possible thank-you to Iain Hume for the memories he has provided us with and we would like to wish him all the best for the future.  I’m sure if he returns to play at Prenton Park against Rovers one day he will receive the welcome he deserves.
