whatever you want to do, when you travel abroad most wear the colours. its 50/50 woolies and scousers..noone should not be proud wearing the mighty red shirt, noone............

This article actually hits on something much bigger... that is the growing insular nature of the young reds.

Used to be a quality atmpsphere on European aways, but the mood has definitely changed to a 'them and us'. Scousers and outsiders. People who don't "deserve" to be there.

It wasnt there in Istanbul, but it certainly was by the time we got to Athens and has remained since. People in Athens who had tickets who werent from Liverpool were subject to some vile abuse.

I was on the plane going to the away at Madrid this year. Some young Scousers sat in front of us, some lads from North Wales behind. The Welsh lads were having a good time, few of the old Red songs coming out. They clearly went to the games and knew 'what it was all about'.

Not enough for our Scouse mates in front, who started shouting abuse at them. telling them to '@#$%& of back to Wales'.

When did it become like this and why. This isnt the way. I'm from Warrington and have been subject to similar treatment. I bought a jarg ticket at another European away and some of the young lads thought it was great that a wool had been scammed.

We used to be famous for, and still should be, our international support. Catching up with Dutch/Norwegian and Belgian reds has always added to the atmosphere.


I dont like the way this is going. The game has bcome more international, and we need to stay international to keep up with our competitors. But the young kids these days prefer to abuse others simply becuase they aren't local enough... even though they come from 5 minutes away through a tunnel.

Its a very negative attitude ,we do get loads of stick off the bitters about our oot support ." Only evertonians are scousers " stuff . Which is a load of stupid codswallop but may be thats got into the pyche of young reds . The problem of not being able to go the game is a pain as well . When ????the new ground arrives it will hopefully allow more fans the chance to actually support their team

I think it's a fine line, think now it's a mix that wear colours locals, OOTers etc. Whether you wear your clubs colours hats, scarves , badges thats no problem wear them with pride.

The most important piece of club colours is your scarf methinks I always have mine at home games but not worn a club shirt for a long while as John may vouch for that.

If you go on the Kop, scarf is a must. the Kop with no scarves flags colour is a no no.

aways in this country I go plain clothes, no colours but Europe is different.

The locals v OOters dabates have raged for yrs. I don't tend ta get involved, but there is fantastic reds on both sides
but you do get that feeling sometimes you don't belong.

Only had one encounter once, got abused on bus going back ta Lime st after a game with Derby midweek 2o yrs ago. was told I only prob go big games as I wasn't from city. until I showed them my sesai tic & told them I go most games, then there attitude changed & become friendly.

On the whole, John who wrote this article eptimises what Liverpudlians are all about, one of the best supporters I have ever had the pleasure of drinking with on match day,
totally outweighs the few that give the abuse.

Think the word we are looking for here is education, no colours...? at least take yer scarf.
