Clouds and Silver Linings

Is it me or does anyone else thinks its strange Rafa has been so quiet regarding our cancerous owners lately, especially when you consider the storm he created when he blew the whistle on them being nothing more than carpet bagging shysters?

Their amateurish attempts to sack him left him with no illusions of the mistrust felt by both parties. So why would Rafa sign a new contract for people who the world knows are up shit creek without a paddle.

He may have more overall control of team matters, but without any financial support.  Why would he stay when on the face of it the team and his stature as a top coach could be severely damaged?

Does Rafa know there are new owners around the corner waiting to pick up the mess at a knockdown price? Is he sitting tight, content with making do this season till new money arrives?

Also SOS have been quite quiet of late considering the turmoil. Are they reluctant to rock the boat, knowing new owners are at hand?

There again is it me looking for a silver lining to our very black cloud?

Personally, I reckon there must have been something in his new contract to say he cannot criticise them publicly. After the lack of support and funding in the summer - even after recouping £15m from Keane in January - he mst be fuming privately.

Like Arsene Wenger, Rafa likes to build for the long term - and therefore expects total control over transfers and youth development. I think this was one of the main reasons he moved to the UK in the first place - and Liverpool seemed to be the ideal club for that with its special way and long vision.

Although Gillet has driven me up the wall many a time, and Hicks on occasion, they have in the end agreed to give Rafa the same degree of control that Arsene (and Sir Alex Ferguson) take for granted. Would Rafa really want to climb into the crazy cauldron that is Real Madrid, where the long-term as an expression does not even exist?

Real is the perfect place for a Mourinho, whose aim is to win trophies in the short term rather than build for the long term. Rafa is the strategist, Mourinho the tactician...

Give Rafa the time and he will build a dynasty to last a generation; give Mourinho the money and he will build a team for the next 3 years.
