English High Culture

When you think of "high culture" if such a thing exists, you would be forgiven for thinking of the National Opera House, or the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden. Institutions visited by, shall we say the educated upper classes? Places were the ruling classes enjoy all the trappings of classical entertainment, and to hell with the price.

These bastions of high culture do come at a very high price though, and guess what, we the British tax payer pay for it.  The arts in London are the most subsidised events in our society. What should cost hundreds of pounds a ticket costs a tenth of the price, thanks to you and me. Opera, ballet, our culture?  Me arse on that, Portsmouth is our culture.

Football is the culture of the vast majority of working class people the length and breadth of this land. Football is English High Culture for no other entity in British life brings so much passion, fervor and sadness.

I say b*llocks to the Covent Gardens and such, places like Portsmouth need our government's help more, for its much, much more important.
