LIVERPOOL are SH*TE

By John Christie
April 9 2010

I can recall teams that were worse than this vintage, but none as disappointing. From last seasons 86 point haul, only losing two games, to this disaster is hard to stomach or fathom. We were so close to reaching our 19th title all it required was reasonable investment.

The players openly begged for it, but it fell on deaf ears where our American owners were concerned. Somehow you could sense what was coming; the pre-season friendlies were flat, as was the opening of the season.  The spark had been snuffed out of the players with the realisation that no investment equalled no serious title push.

Rafas taken the bulk of the blame for this calamitous campaign and its hard to defend a manager who at times looks as though can no longer lift his team. Some blame must also lie with the players who, too many times, have looked at odds with the world. The spate of injuries to the defence at the beginning of the season caused many problems which was unfortunate.

Any organisation is led from the top. Confident, stable management will filter down through the ranks. Our owners have not spoken to each other from virtually day one.  The split at the top has weakened the club beyond recognition. Since their arrival four years ago there has not been one full board meeting! This is no way to run any organisation, you reap what you sow.

Our owners have sown bull from day one, this is why Liverpool are now sh*te.

It was embarrassing watching the some fans celebrating last night as if it has turned into a great season. A very sad night for me.

Why shouldn't we celebrate an excellent performance? It's only the equivellent of the LC but so what? As a Red I want my team to win every competition they enter, none celebration wouldn't get rid of the carpetbaggers ffs.

Welcome to the realms of the fair weather, knee jerk, instant gratification corner of Liverpool fandom. We have one bad season, and everything is sh*te. You admit that we came second last season, and everything was rosy, but one bad season and the manager should be sacked, all the players are rubbish.... People really need to be able to see the bigger picture, rather than be screaming for heads to roll after one poor season. Nando has it down right, we have replaced the Engine of the team, it needs time to run in, without all the glory hunters kicking up all this fuss.

It has been a write off of a season for a number of well documented reasons that dont really need going over yet again. The coming close season will be critical for Liverpool's future and will highlight whether this season is as bad as it gets or whether it is the start of the very slippery slope. Whatever you think about Rafa, and even his biggest fans know he has faults and makes mistakes, his biggest detractors surely admit he is absolutely spot on when he says he has done all he can (done all anyone can, would be accurate too!) without investment to strengthen the squad for next season. There are several areas of the current squad where Liverpool are weak and with the investment going on elsewhere in the League it is now or never for the Yanks.

In rafa we trust....no I dont!!

Longest serving manager since dalglish and we won camps league with houlliers squad more or less and a fa cup we stumbled through the final west ham were unlucky!

So all in all if we want to progress anytime soon we need to shake it up from the top down!

New owners new gaffa and new team morale and attacking layout from the off and throughout games winning or not!

John1983, that's a heap of shiiite.

If Houlliers squad was so good why didn't he win us the champions league?

We won it becuase of the brilliant management of our manager plus a couple of very special additions to the squad like Alonso and Garcia, bought by Rafa, get a grip ffs. Houllier didn't even take us close let alone beat the likes of Olympiacos, Deportevo, Leverkusen, Juventus, Chelsea and AC Milan. So called fans like you make me sick.

How you can say we fuuucking stumbled through the West Ham final is ridiculous, we won the FA Cup fair and square as far as I'm concerned. Penalties are the way a draw is decided and we won it on penalties, what is your problem with that? Did we draught in a new goallie just for the pens? Was our best player not really part of our team?

In Rafa I 100% trust but it's people like you who make me wonder why the feck he stays, you don't deserve him.

BTW, this is a pro Rafa board and fair enough if you want him gone you're free to say so..........but be prepared to back it up with FACTS not red top driven rubbish.

I think you should show some loyalty to your manager. One of his buys preseason has hardly featured. Since CM is a crucial position and Liverpool has only 1 striker, its amazing how well you've done. Only 2 players playing in CM for the majority of the season, Gerrard in support of a striker. There are massive holes in the pool squad that no other manager could do much better with.

Think Pool need a minimum of 1 new central midfielders and 1 new striker. They need to be good though obv. I also think you need a leftback, possibly a new centreback. 4 players minimum, just to make you top 4 material.

Christ, what utter @#$%& drivel. A dissapointing season yes but its hardly time to throw the towel and start the judgements when there is still a trophy and fourth place to play for. The Summer will bring a lot of issues into light over the management, manager and playing staff at the club but for now I'll get behind my team if thats ok, and yes I do have a season ticket, and live in Liverpool. This is not about the manager /players this is about the club . The club has a rotten core ,the owners are a cancer which is sucking the life blood out of the club . Ihave staunchly supported the manager who has had to endure the clubs infighting and a wicked media witch hunt .No way do you sack your manager for one bad season after progression in the previous four .Rafa happens to be one of the worlds top managers and given the right enviroment he will deliver of that i am 100% certain . Fans need to wise up even if Jesus Christ was given the job it would not make one iota of difference under this ownership .We were standing still under Mores now we are going backwards .This is despite the monies won by Rafa in our European conquests . When will fans realise this is not a managerial problem .Its an ownership problem

I'm one of those that feel time is up for Rafa. I don't mind a bad season, that is not the reason why I want to see him go, the reason is all the blatant mistakes he's made and the fact that he doesn't seem to learn from them.

First we have the tactical errors. The one striker up front at Gerrard just behind is clearly not working at the moment, so why insist on still using it, especially away from home? For that to work Gerrard must be in great form; he's the crucial link to Torres and with Gerrard's supply Torres will be much more isolated. On away matches we can see that Torres is hardly getting involved. Yes, Torres scored a goal against Man Utd, but one goal doesn't make the whole tactic a masterstroke.

Then there is also the persistent use of Lucas. Whether you're a fan or not of Lucas is really irrelevant as this is more to do with his playing style than quality. Why do we need two players doing almost the same job? It is basically two holding midfielders, him and Mascherano. How often have we not been frustrated by the lack of creativity and invention? What do we really expect when we have a midfield made up by destroyers and no creators? It is so obvious that we need more offensive impetus it's baffling that Rafa don't see it.

Second is the transfer dealings. Yes, Rafa has had limited budgets, I appreciate we can't go and buy a team full of stars like Chelsea, and honestly I don't want that. I want our team to be run like a football club. Rafa has also made some fantastic deals like Reina and Torres. There has been a lot of bad dealings as well, and the only reason we still rely so heavily on Torres and Gerrard is Rafa's failure to address the issue. We had Crouch who still feel could do a great job for the team, same is true for Robbie Keane. It's not like we haven't had the players in the squad, they've just not been kept. 18M for a right back seems a bit over the top as well, Johnson is a quality player, he's got talent, but that's going forward. His defensive ability is questionable to say the least, and was right back really a high priority area, wouldn't there be other areas of the pitch that should addressed first?

Third is the man management skills. Riera was without a doubt wrong talking to the press, but I also happen to believe that this was a player giving an honest assessment of how he felt the situation was like at Anfield. I appreciate that Alonso didn't have a great second last season, but the desperation in which Rafa tried to rid of him is rare to see, Alonso has even said that he'd stay on if Rafa hadn't tried to force him out the way he did. You have to question the motivational skills as well, Rafa just seems unable to lift the team. After a poor performance against Wigan Rafa had a go at the team and told players off, this is not the only occasion he has done this. I can see that he's trying to make the players look at themselves and get fired up for the next match. Don't know if this is the right way to go though for someone who seems to be already low on confidence, besides it just confirms that inability of Rafa to see that his team is devoid of any creativity. Questions must be asked why have we been poor all year away from home when our quality is so much more, why can't Rafa at least raise us a little bit?

As far as im concerned any season without winning the league is a bad season... There are too many average players in the team. Benitez has built a very, very poor team. and before you start sayting hes had no money, well he hasnt had as much as he would like but what he has had he has spent badly apart form the odd exception.Nando has it down right?? lets see how down right he has it when he goes to a different club.
Get shut of Benitez ASAP and pray he gets the Boot before we get another cash injection because if we are lucky enough to get one i fear it may be the last one.

I appreciate the Schools are on holiday so a few of these posts are possibly just trolling but a very poor team? let's try and get some perspective here please. Liverpool are no where near a very poor team, what they are is a team in a transitional phase, adjusting to no Xabi and unfortunately finding his replacement crocked whilst trying to cover up a major hole in the squad up front. You can criticise Benitez for not getting in proven cover up front and I think that is a justifiable point but it also worth pointing out that proven goalscorers are expensive and the only money Rafa spent pre-season was money he had generated from sales. That kind of investment does not get you a top four side let alone League winners.

That is an impressive track record, and I completely agree with you that we should support our players and managers, it's how it should be. It's also part of the reason why I'm proud to be a Liverpool supporter, that we're there for them and we don't turn against them at the first opportunity.

It actually hurts a little bit that I want the manager out, it runs against everything I believe in as a Liverpool fan. But I've come to the realisation support can be destructive as well. We are all entitled to our opinions and some may think that Rafa is still the right man for the job, but I don't believe so, I've lost my faith, and by supporting him I feel that I've stopped supporting the team. I really desperately want to support Rafa, but it's not right for the club as a whole.

Thank you ManUnited4life, you at least provide a laugh amongst the dire forcasts of some on this thread. United have been successful for the last 20 years (coinciding with our so called decline) and have in that time won ONLY 3 European trophies(That's counting the cup winners cup which didn't even come up to the standard of todays Europe Cup) how fuuucking laughable is that from the self called best team in the world? We've won 2 European trophies (making it 8 in all) in that time and we're supposed to be a craaap team. Think about it and realise how stupid you make yourself look.

2 of those UEFA Cups were won when only Champions played in the European Cup, thereby making the quality in the UEFA a far superior standard, how many of those have United won after numerous entries in to it?

Now go back to where you belong, your European history is a disgrace compared to The Mighty Reds.

Reds, no offense but have you been smoking crack? Allow me to explain, I wasn't having a dig and if you actually took the time to read what I replied to you would have realized that.

You must have been blinded by the fact I used the word "Crap" in my post to describe the competition you're in which you won 3 times? Well, when you quote a post it shows the words that have been censored, and the word censored from John1983's post is "crap" describing the Europa Cup, so I was simply using the same word as a form of sarcasm. Or did you have an issue with the rest of my post? You have a real chip on your shoulder I'm sorry to say, read posts carefully before you decide to waste your time and mine.

We had Crouch who still feel could do a great job for the team, same is true for Robbie Keane. It's not like we haven't had the players in the squad, they've just not been kept.

Rafa wanted Crouch to stay, he wouldn't sign a new contract. I'd bet a pound to a pinch if shiiit if we'd have been able to offer him high wages he'd have been happy to stay on the bench. The Keane thing has been done to death but the truth is he was only wanted if we got Barry, we didn't get Barry but the esteemed Mr Parry bought Keane anyway. I thought Keane had a shiiite attitude and thought he was a lot better than he actually was. He wasted most of the chances he did have.

I appreciate that Alonso didn't have a great second last season,

Alonso had two bad seasons before Rafa tried to sell him and though most fans felt sentimental about him going most thought, because of his two season loss of form and injury, it was a good thing. A manager gets paid to make the hard decisions and that's what Rafa was doing by trying to sell Xabi. The fact that he went on to have a great season shows that Xabi hadn't been prepared to work that hard until he knew he was going and wanted the best deal he could get at wgichever club. Please direct me to the source of Xabi saying he'd have stayed if Rafa hadn't tried to sell him because as far as I know Xabi wanted to go as soon as RM were interested, and that was long before the window opened.

Rafa just seems unable to lift the team. After a poor performance against Wigan Rafa had a go at the team and told players off, this is not the only occasion he has done this.

Are you suggessting that players don't need a kick up the arrse now and again. I'm sick of hearing people say 'oh that poor footballer needs an arm around the shoulder' feck off and grow a pair you namby pamby prima donnas.

Questions must be asked why have we been poor all year away from home when our quality is so much more, why can't Rafa at least raise us a little bit?

Maybe because he's rarely had an uninjured squad to pick from? The fact that we haven't got quality stand ins?

At the end of the day you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Rafa needs money not only to buy quality players but pay better wages as well to keep the bench players happy.

This from the Telegraph shows where we're heading if things don't change financially...

''Two seasons ago Liverpool's wage bill and this more than transfer fees is the true arbiter of success was 10 million behind Arsenal, 30 million behind Manchester United and 80 million behind Chelsea. That gap will have grown and Manchester City will have also overtaken them, withTottenham catching up fast. In terms of tradition, status and success in recent seasons Liverpool are obviously one of the big four but in financial terms they have been falling further behind the curve by the season.''

Reds,

Rafa wanted Crouch to stay, he wouldn't sign a new contract. I'd bet a pound to a pinch if shiiit if we'd have been able to offer him high wages he'd have been happy to stay on the bench. I thought Keane had a shiiite attitude and thought he was a lot better than he actually was. He wasted most of the chances he did have.

Yeah, I know that he wouldn't sign a new contract, but the lad hardly played. Maybe he'd stay if we offered him heaps of money, all of us got a price, but that's not the point. Every footballer wants to play and Crouch didn't, that's really the bottom line.

As for Keane I actually think he could have come good. What Parry did is not the smartest thing, but Keane is a proven quality player and a good option up front. Whether he would come with Barry or not should not really matter, you work with what you have, look at what we have now? Ngog is a good young player, but still not at the level to carry the team as a lone striker. Kuyt and Babel plays on the wings most the time, who else do we have? We've got some good youngsters, but they're not ready yet. We really have suffered when Torres has not been fit, and the lack of cover is Rafa's fault. We're not talking about buying a new star striker, we're talking about players who has already been at the club, but left.

Please direct me to the source of Xabi saying he'd have stayed if Rafa hadn't tried to sell him because as far as I know Xabi wanted to go as soon as RM were interested, and that was long before the window opened.

I know with certainty that I've read that a few places, but finding it now is mighty hard. I do agree that Alonso had a couple of poor seasons, and I even understand Rafa's decision to be open to getting rid of him. What I don't agree with is the desperation in which it was done.

Are you suggessting that players don't need a kick up the arrse now and again. I'm sick of hearing people say 'oh that poor footballer needs an arm around the shoulder' feck off and grow a pair you namby pamby prima donnas.

I agree that players need a kick sometimes, but that's when they have been slacking or is sloppy, not when the confidence is low. Blaming the players like that is also an indication that Rafa doesn't see his own mistakes.

Maybe because he's rarely had an uninjured squad to pick from? The fact that we haven't got quality stand ins?

At the end of the day you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Rafa needs money not only to buy quality players but pay better wages as well to keep the bench players happy.

I appreciate that Rafa has not the same budget as the others in the big four, Tottenham is doing well and Man City has become a plaything. But like I've said players have been in the club, but let go, and despite a limited budget we also bought a right back for 18M, surely there are more pressing matters.

I can accept a few bad transfer dealings, but it adds to my worry about Rafa. What has me really questioned him is the repeatedly poor tactical decisions and the fact that he doesn't seem to learn from it. Just to be clear it's not the results as such, it's the manner of how many matches has been played.

I have nothing against Rafa, and I'm sad that it's (in my opinion) not working out. If he leaves I will wish him all the best and will keep an eye on how he's doing. Time will tell what happens.

I would also blame some of the players this season, our two local ones haven't exactly played to their usual high standards. Rumour has it that they both want rid of Rafa and are doing their best to achieve that on and off the pitch. If true then I'm sorry but it's the manager above players every time, even if it was Houllier, who I disliked a lot.

The desperation, as you call it, was because he needed funds desperately.
The attempt to sell Alonso was a very positive move, imo, because it galvanised him in to performing better than he ever had, allowing us to challenge for the title, he knew he was going to Madrid long before he went and good luck to him.

Money, in the form of wages, is absolutely the point when you want quality players who aren't first team regulars. You only have to look at the other three clubs. Even Arsenal who always claim to be the least spenders have a higher wage bill than us, and if we'd have been able to offer Crouch more money he'd have signed.

You can't win a title without a quality squad, having a great first 11 is no good if the stand ins are all frees or economy players. Do you actually think he'd have let Momo, Garcia, Bellamy, Riisse, Arbeloa or even Alonso (first time) and others go if he hadn't have had to sell to buy? He'd have kept these players as squad players knowing he had safety in case of injuries. The truth is Rafa has had to trade up year on year, always having to look in the bargain basement for none first 11 players.

We bought a RB for 18 million for a number of reasons.
He's English and ALL English players go for exaggerated fees. Portsmouth owed us money from the Crouch deal which, as things turned out, we wouldn't have got. Rafa has always wanted attacking full backs, remember his chase, and Parrys cock up, of Dani Alves, we now have one who I think will be great next season and hasn't looked too bad this. He also had a forward sealed in all but signature last summer, one that would greatly please the fans, but when it came to it he was told he couldn't have the money because it had to go towards wages and new contracts for existing players.

Questioning his tactical decisions suggests you think you know more than him about football, the players he has and their state of fitness. Sounds a bit like all the sky and paper journos, most of whom have never played, let alone managed, or failed/no bottle to do the job/wannabee managers who take the easy way and just sit in a studio criticising others. Show me one pundit who actually succeeded at management.

You still don't say who you think would come and replace Rafa. Who would be prepared to manage this club with one arm tied behind his back?
