I see you have picked up on a story which I believe first appeared in teh Irish Press and which you are now presenting, rather wrrecklessly, as a fait accompli, and I have to ask myself what really are you hoping to acheive

Whilst I accept that the American's rule has been an alomost unmitigated disaster ( I say almost because we have to accept that the money for Torres came from somewhere) I think your naive posturing does more harm than good.

The reality is that because of the principle of limited liabilty the Yanks could let the club go "@#$%& up" and walk away entirely unscathed....no debt, no worries, nothing. And to be honest if I was Hicks I'd have to ask my self why the hell shouldn't I.

The point is the Yanjks have all the power and that power isncludes the power to irrevocable damage the club if we continue to @#$%& them off; we need to allow them to leave with some grace

However i dont agree with your statement about Rafa fighting our cause. Especially after the supposed comments from our captain about the manager. Rafa has only been in it for himself, he has continually undermined players and supporters. Like the owners he is far from the traditions of the football club.If you look at the accounts you can assume that the only reason (as reporetd at the time also) we were sold to teh yanks by Moores & Parry was bacuse they'd make a few million extra. Our problems go back to the days or Parry & Moores. Thye kept us stick in the past and sold us onto to make millions they already have.

And you know this how? I'm sick to death of all the rumourmongering in this city. If it's not blueshite taxi drivers it's Rafa haters making things up to add some weight to their wish for him to go. I'll treat it with same disdain I reserve for the Sunday Sun and Daily Fail.

He has done a great deal for this club and IS the only insider fighting the cause. He could have walked after Athens when he'd realised that these jokers weren't going to carry through their promises, but he didn't he stuck to the job, and at the same time alerted us the fans of the true situation at our club.

The man deserves a fuuucking medal not the abysmal disrespect he receives from the meadia and some fans.

It came from the sales of Garcia, Bellamy and few other youth players. They didn't actualy spend their own money.


@Ritters - Aqualani cost £4mil with rest depending on appearances, of which to date he has not made enough to trigger additional payments. Also we had to sign someone from Roma as they owed us money for Riise, and they would have been unable to pay that. Johnson was bought cos Pompey owed us £7 mil for Crouch and there was not a snowballs chance in hell of them paying us that. looking at their squad at the time, did they have any other player above £7 mil who would have been a worthwhile signing? Another pre-requisite is that he had to be English cos of the new rules.

Its bad enough the press giving the world only half the true picture without unthinking fans adding to it.


I also want to add that I'm not hugely pro-Rafa or anything, I just don't believe you can use his transfer record as a stick to beat him with as policy has been dictated by other non-footballing factors.

Ritters it's comments like your that disturb me most. Rafa did not have £37m to spend nowhere near it. He put 4m euros down on Aquilaini the rest is based on appearances (the exact figures were put on the Roma website. Also Johnson we paid about £10m for as we were owed around £7m from Crouchies deal. We sold Alonso, Arbeloa, and Leto for whom we got a couple of million. Plus the keane money from the January transfer window. Tens of millions (even after The Academy restructure) Rafa should have had went into some black hole!!

Well, what is there to say really? Only 10 years ago we were all getting our coffins ready to parade thru the streets incase everton were relegated. Could very well be the case of he who laughs last laughs loudest.

Well said Reds, Admittedly Rafa fecked up over the Alonso/Barry affair. But had the shortsighted Yanks put their faith in Rafa, because they certainly wouldn't have put their hands in their pockets,and stumped up for Barry in the first place instead of putting Rafa in the position of having to sell Alonso first, we would have had the cover for midfield. Instead we lost out on both and ended up having to rely on Lucas, who I believe, in time, will grow into a great asset for the club. I'm sure that this has been covered more than once, but had Rafa been given the Keane and Alonso money to invest in the squad last summer I'm convinced that we could have challenged again. I think we all felt that after Torres had been involved in the African Cup of Nations it was only a matter of time before he broke down again. With Rafa also realising this, he was never given the opportunity to bring in quality support. Ah you say what of the £20 million for Aquilani, it's been well documented that we bought him on the 'never never', paying with installments dependant on performance and club success (initially £3.5 million and subsequent payments each 6 months). What of the £17 million for Johnson, the fact that Portsmouth still owed us £7 million for Crouch, which we were never going to see again, was used as a makeweight in the Johnson deal. Including the £1.5 million for Kyrgiakos that was a total of £15 million for the total summer transfer spend. There are an awful lot of so called Reds falling for the media propaganda about Rafa and calling for his head. I would defy any other manager to have coped under similar restrictions and high expectations. Rafa could quite easily leave during the summer and I wouldn't blame him. If he was to leave though I could see it being a crippling blow as I don't believe there any quality managers that would touch the club in it's current position.

Whether the sale happens in time to make plans for next season or prevent and exodus of players depends on how much clout Broughton has to force a sale to pay off the banks rather than profit Hicks-Gillett. I think fans have to take a step back and don't get themselves drawn in to the lies that the media are fuelling about are club. Yes the club is in dire straights and the blame clearly lies with laurel and hardy for the financial mess that we find ourselves. But I think people are forgeting the major role that the greedy banks have played in our financial situation. They knew that the yanks were unfit to run our club yet they still extended the loans to them knowing that they would make millions in interest payments alone. Fans are debating about Rafa should he stay or should he go? The answer is simple he must go his negative tactics and his inabillity to inspire the team have cost us not only this season but sadly the season before. Yes i no we finished second but we would have won the prem if he had been more positive in games that we drew.

And you know we've only been around for a few years how? It's good you mention the 2nd division because the person who got us out of it would have been far more vociferous than Rafa. He was a man who had no time for boards anyway but if they'd have treated him like this gang of vagabonds have treated Rafa all hell would have broken loose. We have the right man at the helm and if the players don't like it tough shiiit, they are far from blameless this season.

May I remind you that Leeds are/was a big club too, no-one jumped in to save them before the fire sales, I have to say I admire your misplaced optimism.

Broughton is a front man, brought in to appease the banks and allow the carpet baggers to stall, YET AGAIN, any selling of the club.

Next time you go on a site maybe you should think twice before assuming that the hosts don't have a long history with the club.

Fascinating. I'm impressed with the knowledge you guys have over the financial details. Puts a whole new perspective on it.

Opinion for what its worth, I think the administration scenario is a bit melodramatic.I do beleve a buyer will come in and the cowboys will walk away in profit. Rafa will stay one more year but with a limited budget unless Abramovich type buys AND SOON. I also beleive Rafa has stood firm when other managers would have wilted. Indeed he has shown great loyalty given that he walked from Valencia with less provocation. Can he galvanise the squad this time? That would seem doubtful.

ridiculous article - there is absolutely no way the club will go into administration, and no way we couldn't find a better manager than Rafa at the moment.

I agree his spending has been exaggerated by the media - but its not the money he has spent its the players he has bought thats the problem. If you look at our first choice 11 - only 4 of these players would get into Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Man City squads - and thats being generous. In Reina, Masch, Gerrard and Torres there is a backbone but no other player in our squad is worthy of the shirt:

Kuyt runs alot but doesnt have the skill or speed required for a LFC winger
Lucas and Babel are not living up to their hype and young players of the year in their respective countries and need to be sold
Benayoun has flashes of genius, but not enough to warrant a place in our team
Carra is past it
Insua is too young and inexperienced
Riera - not even worth mentioning
Aquilani - regardless of the price is not good enough
Ngog - doesnt need time - look at Anelka at Arsenal 2 years his junior - simply not good enough for us
I can go on and on.

The blame for our poor season is too much wasted money - instead of spending 4 or 5 million on a bunch of maybes, Rafa should have been spending 20m a summer on one class act.

Can you imagine the team should he have done this - not only would there be distinctly more class, we would have also allowed the youth players the chance to step up. I was chuffed to see we got Shelvey, and hopefully Wilson, so happy with the summer so far - but on the first team squad - we need a mass overhaul, and the only person to do that would be a new manager with no ties to the current crop of players.

Rafa has had his time, as have most of his squad - its time for a new dawn, I would be happier to see a mass load of the players go, give Shelvey, Wilson and co (Pacheco, Robinson, Ince, Spearing) a chance in their place and bring in one or two quality players and come 6th than another summer of wasted money on 5 or 6 rubbish players who will simply rotate with the current rubbish we already have.

Rafa:- Accountant, Chief Exec, MD, Pyhsio, @#$%& legend. He stuck with LFC because the fans support him through thick and thin, rather like walking through a storm really, through the wind and the rain even. So Rafa I salute you for your steadfast resillience. The new owners, billionaires or not, are still going to put debt on the club. We will have to get used to the fact we will have a debt on the club and will be paying interest to banks but i agree at probably a lot better rate than the muppets are getting.The people who buy us are not going to use there life savings to bale out liverpool, supporters or not. The new owners ideally will be able to use us as a advertising tool
i.e. ( arsenal stadium naming rights , emirates, 100 mill )
and the money they will save can go towards building the team.
The new stadium will also be borrowed money from banks, we need to get use to this fact. Then maybe supporters will just talk about the team and the way we play,
Which gets me onto the football side of things. Something has to give here because i dont enjoy the style of play we use at the moment and i want to enjoy going the game or what is the point.rafa has to take this on board because i believe that is where most of the fans frustrations come from and at the end of the day it is entertainment.

I dont think the club will go in administration next year, but I do agree that the owners are buying time insted of selling the club.

They should have known a year ago that no one will be willnig to invest under their terms and they could have found a way to sell the club than.
Insted they opted for it now and they will try to get as much as they can for the club.

I dont think it is no real danger of going in administration as there are at least 3 different sides interested in buying the club at a reaseanable price.
But the haggling could take to long and it could waste a valiable time for Liverpool just when it's a start of transfer window- World Cup stars will cost a lot, there is real need of fresh cash from the new owner. Not to mention building a new stadium.

Let us hope that a chairman is man of intgrity and also capable, who will put sense in those two and get the sale compleat as quickly as posible.

Adminstration is getting closer if RBS carries out their threat of "foreclosure" in July if Hicks & GIllett cannot come out with that mortgage payment.

Without CL CUp, selling off players is necessary to reduce wage bills, plus to raise cash to forestall adminstration.

There again, if H & G can't find a buyer, it makes financial sense for them to "forfeit" Liveprool FC to RBS for them to sell Liveprool FC to the highest bidder...say 400-mil to 450-mil......and recovering their loan in full.

Bluntly, 2009/10 Accounts will be worst than 2008/09 Accounts, with 2010/11 accounts will be the worst due to falling attendances, less merchandise sales, no CL CUp and a club in turmoil due to boycotts by fans.

If H & G can't find a buyer by July, then high probability that they will surrender Liverpool FC to EBS to get the best deal possible to minimise their losses.

Liverpool 2008/09 revenue - 217-mil.

I doubt 2010/11 revenue can reach 200-mil.
