It seems like a decade but its only three years since Liverpool’s new owners introduced themselves to the Kop. It wasn’t long before all their promises of new stadia and a financial backing for the manager were seen as hollow lies.
As the whole club has lurched towards the abyss, the fans anger has been directed towards the American owners with ever increasing venom. Their nationality has been a target but it's an easy place to start shall we say. YANKS this and YANKS that etc . Can this be interpreted as xenophobic or even racist?
The burning of the American flag at a fans demo last week had the desired effect as it was beamed across the world. To us, all publicity is good, as it raises awareness of the clubs plight. Again though are we shooting ourselves in the foot? Is our frustration and anger at the owners alienating the American nation? Are forces at work deliberately deflecting the real story away from the owners to a xenophobic one?
As a Liverpool fans should we be careful with our language regards Americans? Our problem is with bad owners not the USA.
Is the Kop XENOPHOBIC?

We could go about it better because I personally don't like it but it isn't exactly that we hate them because they're from the USA, we dislike them for what they appeared to have done to our club. It is something that needs to change, I'm sure we have a lot of fans in the USA and we are disrespecting them with our actions. (I shouldn't say our, it is afterall only a handful of people in relation to Liverpools total fan base)
It’s not about alienating the American Nation, it’s about getting our message across to the ‘Yanks’ and to anyone sharing their nationality. It’s far less controversial than the way the US is treating ‘British Petroleum’ right now. The Yanks have proven to be untrustworthy and despicable individuals and it’s fair to treat them with the contempt they deserve, not that this will make any difference as they have the skin of a rhino and the morals of a rat (now that’s a little unfair to rats to be honest)
it is absurd to even flirt with the idea that Liverpool supporters are xenophobic. The burning of the flag is patently symbolic of the hatred felt for our American owners, not a reflection of prejudice held against America. As Liverpool supporters, we would welcome an honest investor from any corner of the world provided they were dedicated to the development of the club. Our owners are labeled "yanks" simply because it is the most the obvious and easily identifiable element of their character.
We record all IP addresses on the Sportnetwork message boards which may be required by the authorities in case of defamatory or abusive comment.
We seek to monitor the Message Boards at regular intervals.
