The Problem With Roy
By John Christie

As a match going Liverpool fan since the late 60s I have a big problem with Roy. I am drenched in every facet of the Liverpool Way as laid down by Bill Shankly. To back, to trust your manager and your team in the face of every adversity, hence the backing for Rafa.
The more the media put him down the more his legend grew. His utter contempt for the media muppets was manna from heaven for our rebellious Scouse nature. How dare media monkeys preach to us about football. Rafa led us back to the top of the football world, fact, and don’t try to kid us that he didn’t or was a bad manager; we’re more than capable of judging managers for ourselves.
So now we have Roy in his place to the applause of all the media. He’s a nice man, experienced, just the chap to steady the ship, we were told. Our directors jumped, sacked Rafa and wheeled out Roy, just the chap to keep his nose out of the boardroom. That may be the case but was he the best man available?
Absolutely not, Roy came for the wrong reasons. The media won’t turn on their man. Why? Because it means they were maliciously wrong about Rafa all along.
I have a problem with Roy, so much so I wasn’t that gutted at defeat at Goodison, or possible defeat at the coming Napoli game.
Clouds and silver linings! Just give us a manager to fit the bill, sooner the better.

Roy needs to go, he has the look of a man who knows he's out of his depth, we had some bad perfomances last year, but we also had some good or even fantastic ones. At least Rafa had us playing with a high tempo under Roy it seems we only start playing once we've gone a goal down.
To hear Roy saying last Sunday was our best performance of the season was embarrasing.
I don't want him to have 40m at his disposal god knows who he will buy, I mean Poulsen?!?!? Give me a break! And why oh why did he get rid of Aquilani - they guy was hardly given a chance, they few times he played towards the end of last season he looked pretty useful, certainly no worse than we have now.
I never want Liverpool to lose but part of me think that maybe a defeat on thursday would be best for the club because hopefully that will mean Roy will be on his way and we can get a manager in of Liverpool FC class.
Roy is simply out of his depth. I was a bit surprised he was given the role. But then he brought in Cole and we played like world beaters against some romainian team or whoever in the Europa. I was fooled by this and got carried away with what the media was saying about Roy. But after 4 league games you could tell he has not got a clue. I don't think even the players want to play for him anymore. He has already lost them. They need a man they can respect and trust. Someone who can motivate them again.
Roy will have to go. It is simply a matter of time. Not IF but instead it is a WHEN. It is not a maybe he will or maybe he won't. It is better we lose to Napoli and he is sacked.
Roy please do the right thing and walk yourself. I know it will knock your reputation and it is a hard thing to do. But at least you will be remembered as the guy who held up his hands and had enough respect for the fans to admit you can't do this job. The liverpool fans will remember you fondly as the guy who kept Torres and Gerrard at the club.
Now time for Dalglish, O'Neill, Hiddink or Rijkaard to build on that!
Riijkaard was my first choice in the summer and now he is available on a free we should grab him up quickly, instead of going for the mediocre option of O'Neill just to appease the media who want to see British maangers at the top - Hodgson has blown it for all of them!

Just because they were wrong about Roy, that does not mean that they were wrong about Rafa. Benitez's time had come and he was rightly moved on, but Hodgson should have never been handed the job in the first place, much less be given more time to continue aimlessly digging in the massive hole that he has created at Anfield.

But in many, many fans eyes they were wrong about Rafa. I would have loved to see a Rafa team if he'd had a decent amount of money to spend instead of the continual sell to buy policy, which only allowed him to upgrade players slowly, and didn't allow for keeping good squad players.
27 million net under the tumours over 7 transfer windows shows what a bloody good manager he was by getting us in to the CL 5 out of 6 seasons.
Never, ever MON for me, can't stand the man and the one member of the wine club we've got now has been enough for a lifetime for me. Woys pride in getting the LMA award last years shows how skewed that lot are. He got to a Europa League final, that's it, the stupid old nobody couldn't even win that. Ancelloti should have gotten that LMA award whether Chelsea had the money or not, he got his club a double for the first time in their history. Whose turn will the wine club decide it is this season? Horrible Allardyce because he's said he could manage a top class club?

Agree totally with ALL of your post.

To me the answer is obvious. Get Kenny in, he holds the fort 'til Rafa has done a respectable couple of seasons at Inter and then returns.
IF the rumours about a couple of 'senior' Liverpool players briefing against Rafa are true, at least one will be finished by the time Rafa returned.
I still think he feels he has unfinished business at Anfield and I for one would welcome him back to see if he could do the job with some decent financial backing.
