What is this "JUSTICE FOR THE 96?”
By John Christie
August 23 2011
It’s a question I have been asked many times over the years, mainly by people not from Liverpool. As someone who was there and witnessed at first hand the events develop on that fateful day I am now tired of the continual regurgitating, the opening of wounds. I want to walk away now; it’s over twenty years I want to let it go.
There again I did not lose anyone close so how selfish am I? The families who lost their loved ones didn’t just lose a child, father, brother or sister. They had their loved ones blamed by the authorities. Authorities who lied, rewrote statements, fixed the media of the day to pour sh!te from a great height on the good name of their loved ones, and on the city ofLiverpool. How easy for cowards to pass the buck and how easy for a right wing media to jump in, all guns blazing, without question? How easy for Thatcher’sBritainto point the finger of blame?
The Tory parties attempt to block the release of Thatcher’s cabinet papers of the day is just another cruel delay for the families who want the truth. Families who want to let go after all these years. Until that day how can I not walk on.
Steven Whittle aged 50 stepped out in front of a train a few months ago. He was not at Hillsborough but passed his ticket to his best friend who perished. He just had enough of the pain and injustice. The loss of jobs, divorces, breakdowns how many? Justice will mean the real cowards standing trial who have hid behind the old school establishment of this country of ours.
Then the families will let their loved ones REST IN PEACE.
