£3.5 million bid for Morientes turned down

Liverpool's initial bid to sign Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes for £3.5 million has been turned down. However talks are not over between the clubs.

Everyone knows about the troubles Liverpool have had with their strikers and Benitez hopes Morientes can be the way out. At the start of the season Liverpookl still needed another striker. The situation got worse when Cisse broke his leg and the to find out he will be out for the rest of the season.

Ever since Liverpool have had to rely on young Neil Mellor to do the job. THe player may be happy with the situation but he hasn't got the experience and nnot yet the quality to become first choice striker at Liverpool.

Liverpool have been linked with many strikers including Anelka from Man City and Villa from Real Zaragozza. However the player the fans would most like to see arrive at Anfield is Fernando Morientes. Real want £7 million for the striker but Benitez believes we can get him for cheaper.

Benitez has been given £5 million to spend in January which will possibly be spent on one player. Real turned down the first bid from Liverpool of £3.5 million and said they want double the amount. The next bid from Liverpool will be £5 million, which may be the right price. After all we deserve a bit of compensation from the Owen deal.
