Liverpool to land Morientes!

Liverpool look set to land the Spanish striker Fernando Morientes for a fee of £5 million. The striker has been kept out of the Real team by former Liverpool striker Michael Owen.

Morientes has had few appearances for Real this season and looks to be out of favour at the Bernabeu. His lack of first team football this season has attracted a lot of clubs trying to get his signature. Liverpool have been interested in Morientes since the summer when we saw Owen go the other way. Ever since Owens transfer Liverpool have been short of players upfront. Morientes has rarely had a chance to play this season scoring just one goal all season. Other teams such as Newcastle and Monaco have been after the Spaniard but the player has stated he wants to come to Merseyside. Morientes said that he is aware of Liverpool's successful history and has full respect for Benitez as a coach and as a person. If Liverpool were to land Morientes it would be a fantastic signing and a bargain for a fee of £5 million. The only worry might be his lack of first teanm football at Real Madrid. His last league goal for Real was in 2003, however he was on loan at Monaco last season and was the outstanding striker of last seasons Champions League. Oh, and by the way he would be cup tied for the Reds in the Champions league if we were to get his signature.
