Anelka deal 80% done

Nicolas Anelka’s agent is claiming that a deal to bring the French striker to Maine Road is 80% complete. The deal will smash the club record transfer fee with Anelka costing the club £13 million.

City appear to have moved quickly after Liverpool decided not to take up their option to buy the 23 year old from Paris Saint Germain. Anelka is quoted as saying he is now looking forward to working with Kevin Keegan and playing for Manchester City although the official City website is advising caution. If the deal does go through Anelka will link up with two former team mates, new signing, Sylvain Distain, and player of the season, Ali Bernabia. Bernabia is believed to have played a part in selling the club to Anelka. Anelka looks to have turned his back on at least two other Premiership clubs and a host of top European sides for the chance to work under Keegan.

Despite the baggage that comes with Anelka there can be no doubting that he is world class. It is the calibre of signing that Kevin Keegan promised and it demonstrates the clubs ability to compete in the transfer market.
