Alex Smith joins up !

Sacked Dundee United manager Alex Smith has joined Motherwell as a consultant to manager Terry Butcher. The pair worked together at Raith Rovers for 18 months.

Smith who was at Ibrox on Saturday to watch Motherwell go 3 - 0 down said: "Terry knows for as long as I help him that he will get nothing from me but straight views."


Alex who was sacked by new Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson last week after a poor start to the season will bring a lot of experience to the Fir Park backroom staff, as well as United, Alex has also managed St Mirren, Aberdeen and until recently the Scotland under - 21 side.


Terry welcomed Alex to Fir Park by saying "People like Alex should never be out of the game. He knows so much and can help me greatly with his opinions. I have Chris McCart and George Adams here and I have the highest respect for them, but sometimes you need a different pair of eyes."
