We can stay up - Butcher

Terry Butcher think's Motherwell still have the quality to stay in the SPL despite sitting bottom. He said "The optimism is still there because I'll always have a belief in the players and in the club. "With the quality of players that we have here, that should be enough to get us out of it."

Terry Butcher says he will pin a copy of the league table up in the Fir Park dressing room to emphasise to his players that they are the bottom team in the SPL.


He said: "I'll be pinning the league table up on the board - we pin up the plaudits when we get them, so we should be pinning up the facts as well.


"We are bottom of the league now and that's a fact. I hate being bottom of the league, it's not nice, but we have to get the reality to sink in if we are to get out of it.


"People may say that we shouldn't be at the bottom of the table but the facts speak for themselves and that's where we are.

"We have players here who did very well in the early part of the season and, as a unit, we were very difficult to beat and we have to get back to that."


We have now failed to win a game since our excellent win over Celtic at the beginning of September. We now face Kilmarnock and Dundee United at home and if we have any chance of staying up we'll have to pick something up from those games.
