Motherwell 2 - 2 Fulham

Motherwell twice came from behind thanks to goals from summer signing Alex Burns and the magic of super sub James McFadden to earn a 2 - 2 draw with Premiership side Fulham at Fir Park today.

Motherwell manager Terry Butcher made two changes to the side which beat Carlisle on Tuesday night, out went Scott Leitch being replaced with Derek Adams and new signing Barry John Corr replaced the injured Gordon Marshall in goal.





Fulham brought a full strenth side to Fir Park which included Steve Marlet, Edwin van der Sar and Louis Saha amongst other top names.


Fulham opened the scoring after only 16 minutes, Motherwell striker Steven Craig failed to clear a corner properly. The ball fell to Steed Malbranque, who passed to Louis Saha and he stabbed the shot past Corr who had no chance in the Motherwell goal.


Motherwell battled for an equaliser and were rewarded with a penalty. David Clarkson was fouled by Alain Goma in the Fulham box. Alex Burns sent Edwin van der Sar the wrong way to pull Motherwell level.


Fulham were back in front again on the hour mark when Stephen Pearson, who is set to sign an extension to his current contract, failed to stop Marlet surging into the area and firing home past Corr.




The biggest cheer of the day was reserved for the arrival of James McFadden with twenty mintes remaining. James was unlucky not go get on the scoresheet but provided Alex Burns with his second. With a minute remaining McFadden turned the Fulham defence and passed to Burns who couldn't miss from 3 yards.

Dundee are the visitors next Saturday for our first SPL match of the new season. Dundee also had a good result against English opposition today beating Northampton Town 4 - 2.
