Scottish Cup Giant Killers Inverness Caley visit Fir Park this Saturday hoping to add Motherwell to their list cup shocks.

In recent seasons Caley have done well against SPL opposition beating Celtic ( twice ), Dunfermline and Hearts but Motherwell have a good record against the Highland side, playing them twice, both times in the League Cup with the ' Well ' progressing on both occassions.


The first match was back in 1997 at Fir Park when the match was decided by penalties after a 2 - 2 draw. Falconer and Coyle got the Motherwell goals that night in front of a 4247 crowd, at least double that amount are expected on Saturday.

A goal from Lee McCulloch at the Caledonian Stadium sent Motherwell through to Round 4 of the League Cup back in 1999.

Terry Butcher is giving the First Division side the respect they are due, he told the official site " They are a good, compact side who passed the ball well with a good front line. They are strong up front with Wilson, Bingham and Ritchie all with good experience. "


" The rest of the side are good, experienced campaigners and they have beaten Celtic twice in this tournament and we’ll need to be at our best as John Robertson also says they will bring about 3000 fans with them. "


But the Englishman added that his side are ready to battle for a semi final slot, " The players are fired up for it, we have risen well up the table and this gives us a confidence. It’s good to look at the papers and see the League table at the moment. But we haven’t achieved anything despite securing our place in the Premier League as we have moved the goal posts on the players so many times this season. We are delighted with the way they have responded in both the League and the Cup. "


On the injury front, Gary Bollan, Jason Dair and Phil O'Donnell will all miss the match through injury while defender David Partridge is not match fit.


Caley have lost their last 2 league matches against Falkirk and Queen of the South but have a habit of keeping their best for the Scottish Cup.




Mark Brown



There will be one familiar face to Motherwell fans in the Caley line up. Goalkeeper Mark Brown was freed when the club went into administration and no doubt the morning papers will be full of Brown telling his story.
