Future still looks good

Preston North End U-16's were finally beaten in the Dallas Cup after losing in the quater finals. And even though there was talk of Preston winning the tournament when they brezzed through the group stages, the chances of us unearthing some good home grown talent still looks good.

Simon Davey's side will be travelling back home after losing 2-0 to CF Monterrey at Richland College in the prestigious tournament. There had been high hopes for North End after they had breezed through the group stages with three consecutive wins.

In their first match of the tournament they defeated Texas Longhorn Orange 2-1 thanks to goals from Wilkes and Maloney, before beating Bethesda United 1-0 with a Jason Smith winner. Last Wednesday they completed the group stage with a 3-2 victory over So Cal United, with Smith again amongst the goals.

The under-16 tournament was eventually won by Chicago Magic who beat Solar SC at Lake Highlands Stadium. There was one English side that emerged victorious however as Arsenal claimed the under-17 prize following a 3-1 win over FC Delco Crunch.

The Dallas Cup annually brings more than 145 youth soccer teams from across the country and around the globe to compete in the weeklong soccer tournament every Easter week at venues all over Dallas. Past participants in its 25 year history have included youngsters such as David Beckham, Raul, Kleberson, Michael Owen and Claudio Reyna.
