Scottish Cup Final decided

The two semi finals are now complete and with Motherwell beating St. Johnstone 3-0 yesterday and Celtic seeing off Aberdeen 4-0 today we know the teams for the game on 21st May.

A three goal first half burst saw Motherwell through to meet Celtic who waited until the second half before scoring four against Aberdeen.

Motherwell took four minutes to open the scoring yesterday, a Tom Hateley corner was missed by Enckelman allowing Craigan a free header from close range.

Ten minutes later it was two when a surging solo run from Jamie Murphy tore the Saints defence open to shoot home from 18 yards out. The tie was sealed with a stunning strike from John Sutton, he latched on to a cushion header from Jeffers to volley in from 30 yards out.

This was enough for Motherwell to see out the tie, and set up their first final in 20 years. This was a thoroughly deserved win, and one back in January and February when McCall took over you would have thought possible.

The other semi turned on a sending off after only 18 minutes, Andy Considine pulled down Hooper as he burst through to shoot. It was a clear penalty and a red card, but Langfield dusted himself down and save Stokes weak effort.

The Dons survived a number of misses from Anthony Stokes to keep the score line blank at half time. They then lost a really soft goal at the start of the second period. Charlie Mulgrew sent a hopeful kick into the box which missed everyone and bounced into the net.

It could’ve been as many as Celtic had wanted, with Ledley sweeping home a Stokes cross, then Commons scoring from the penalty spot and Maloney tapping in from close range late on.

The writing was on the wall for the Dons as soon as Considine was sent off, but Celtic took full opportunity in the second half.
