Old Firm games passed without incident

It would appear there was little incident off the pitch this afternoon, and to be fair there wasn’t much on the pitch either.

The game started at the usual 100 miles an hour with neither team having any time to take a touch on the ball. Players were closed down quickly and if they did get any space they would be knocked to the ground.

The first half ended with neither keeper being tested with Edu and Naismith off target for Rangers and Brown for Celtic at the other end.

The only flash point was a minor pushing match between Samaras and Weir that saw both players correctly shown yellow.

The second half was a much better spectacle with both sides coming close, although Forster still didn’t have a serious save to make, although how Lafferty missed with a header from six yards out I will never know.

At the other end Majstorovic pulled out a fine save from McGregor with a bullet of a header from a corner. Then he saved a penalty from Samaras low to his left to keep the scoreline level at zero.

The decision to give the penalty was probably about the only decision ref Thomson got wrong. It looked to me as though Stokes ran into Davie rather than Davis blocking the Celtic man.

In the end you could tell by the reaction of the two sets of fans how the result affects the chase for the title. Celtic now know if they win all of their games they will win the title, and as a result Rangers need a favour from someone else.
