SPFA get it right

The SPFA player of the year was announced last night as Emilio Izaguirre of Celtic, and I for one have no argument with that!

Since signing for Celtic in the summer the Honduran International has been excellent. He has been that rare full back who can not only get forward but can also defend.

 

He has looked a class above anything else in the SPL this season for me, and rightfully saw off the challenge Hooper, Eremenko and Naismith to take the award.

 

David Goodwillie won the Young Player of the Year award, and this is probably right despite his alleged off field activities.

 

The divisional awards went to John Baird of Raith Rovers, Rory McAllister of Brechin and Gavin Swankie of Arbroath.

 

The manager of the year award, which is normally a split decision between the Old Firm Managers, was surprisingly given to John McGlynn of Raith Rovers. While I understand he has done a great job getting the Kirkcaldy side into a promotion challenging position, he has won nothing.

 

I know this a bit to do with the voting date, but Jim McIntyre has got Dunfermline promoted after four years of hard where he has had to rebuild the side from scratch in that time.

 

It will be interesting to see how the Football Writers vote, given they have had a few more weeks to consider as their poll closes this week.
