Scotland stay 61st in FIFA rankings.

The latest FIFA rankings announced today sees Scotland remain 61st in the World Rankings – does this seem right?

For a long time I have had real issues with the FIFA rankings, both when Scotland were in the top 20 (we were never that good!) and now we are almost as low as we were under Berti Vogts.

 

You only need to look at the two teams immediately above us, are we worse than Gabon and Albania?? I am not sure how make these measurements but it will take some convincing to make me believe this is correct.

 

Our last three games have seen us lose to Brazil, beat Wales and then lose to Ireland. I would suspect these would be the same results if Gabon and Albania played these teams….

 

The down side is these rankings impact our seeding for the World Cup qualifiers and ensures we will be in pot 4 this time, with another potential Group of Death in the prospect when the draw is made in Rio on Saturday.

 

Maybe we need to adopt Walter Smith’s approach to friendlies, either we don’t play any, or we play teams we have a prospect of beating!!
