Hibs fail again, this time at home to St. Mirren

Hibs lost the third of their opening four SPL games with a 2-1 defeat at home to the vastly improved St. Mirren yesterday.

At the start of the game Hibs were looking okay and took the lead through Gary O’Connor with his third goal in three league games.

But their defensive fragility was to come back and haunt them as by the break they were 2-1 down, with first Thompson and then Thomson scoring to ensure the players left the field to the sound of boos in their ears.

Despite having 45 minutes to find a way back Hibs never looked like taking anything from the game. They struggled to cope with the slick passing of St. Mirren while having no plan B to get back into the game.

Not only is this the third loss out of four since the start of the SPL season it is only 9 wins out of 35 since Colin Calderwood took over from John Hughes. This has major alarm bells ringing for the Hibs fans, who are already voting with their feet, with only 8886 at Easter Rd yesterday.

The calls for the sacking of Colin Calderwood are getting louder as are the demands for Rod Petrie to leave as well. Many feel Petrie has made a huge error in judgement by not taking any compensation from eitherNottinghamForestorBirminghamwhen they were looking for Calderwood as their assistant manager.

This now means Hibs either have to stick with Calderwood or be forced into paying him a large sum in compensation for his removal. This latter situation could see a turn round of more than £400000 for Hibs, with the English sides offering £250000 to take Calderwood, while it will take a six figure sum to sack the manager.

It is still a bit sad in some ways that one ofScotland’s greatest old clubs in such disarray, and they really need to get things sorted as they are the size of club who should be pushing for honours inScotland.
