Albion Ladies are the only side to come away with a win this weekend as they beat London Wasps away.
London Wasps II 12
Albion Ladies 14
With a full squad travelling to the London Wasps only Jenny March came on from the bench after an injury to Sarah Curtis in the 70th minute.
With Albion playing the first half into the wind on a wet sticky pitch it was always going to be a difficult match.
Albion made a solid start taking the ball into the Wasps 22 but after a series of mauls that took Wasps to the Albion try line to put the hosts ahead in the 8th minute. 5-0.
This woke Albion up and they took the ball to Wasps for a good 10 minutes before Albion were awarded a penalty 10 metres in front of the posts. Despite screams from the touch line to take the points the team took a tap penalty. The maul formed and Anna Shepard took the ball over for a try which Tracy Corby converting to take Albion into the lead. 5-7
With handling errors on both sides the rest of the first half was even until 6 minutes before the change around when a Wasps centre crashed through to score under the posts which their Prop converted. 12-7
Despite a pep talk at half time Albion did not take control of the match with the wind behind them until the 70th minute of the match. Albion turned over the ball in the Wasps half before Kim Davey got through the defensive line 25 metres out before running for the line and touching down under the posts. Tracy Corby added the extras again to bring the final score to 12 - 14.
Although Wasps had a few chances as they turned the ball over they did not take full advantage and Albion managed to finish on a high and in control of the game.
After the match Tristan Forster said that his hair is going grey as this is the third match in row where the ladies have taken the game in the last 10 minutes.
The team would like to thank the substitutes that travelled all that way without touching the ball in anger. The support from the touchline was a benefit to the team and knowing they were there if needed. Another week most of the substitutes would have been used but each game is different and was obviously a tight result that went down to the wire.
