match report: Sunderland 5, Wolves 2
By The Black Cats
September 28 2009
It was a poor defensive performance from the Black Cats but they were lethal in front of goal. Sunderland beat Mick McCarthy's Wolves by 5 goals to 2.
Goals from Jones (2), Bent (2) and Turner won Sunderland all 3 points.
Sunderland went ahead through a Darren Bent penalty early in the first half, before Kenwyne Jones made it 2-0, again from the penalty spot, just after half time.
Wolves then scored, with a flukey goal - a good save from Craig Gordon bounced in off John Mensah who could do nothing about it.
The second goal was even more farcical - a terrible back pass from Kieran Richardson meant Craig Gordon had to use his hands at full stretch to prevent a goal - resulting in an in direct free kick from about 4 yards out.
The free kick was blocked but the ball broke to a Wolves player who lashed the ball into the net.
Kenwyne Jones scored a great goal, Darren Bent chested a long ball down to Jones, who beat his man and found the bottom corner of Hennesey's net.
Michael Turner then made it 4-2 with a header from Andy Reid's corner - Turner made a great run - unmarked - into the box and directed a free header into the bottom corner.
The rout was finally completed when Darren Bent broke through and had his shot deflected by Michael Mancienne - the goal may be credited to Mancienne as an OG but as far as I'm concerned it belongs to Bent.
