Sunderland have finally signed Argentinian right back Marcos Angeleri after the Argentinian gained an Italian passport.

Angeleria was signed from Estudiantes, a team plying their trade in South America

The 27 year-old has agreed a three-year deal with Sunderland with the fee being undisclosed.

Angeleri is the third South American brought to Wearside by Bruce, the others being our two Paraguayans Paulo Da Silva and new boy Cristian Riveros. Both on a high after a great performance at the 2010 World Cup.

Steve Bruce said: "Marcos is a strong, powerful defender and will add depth to the squad. He is also very keen to get forward from that position so that adds an extra dimension to the side.

"He has been one of the best right full-backs in South America in recent years and has really impressed us when we've watched him."

Angeleri began his career at Primera División side Estudiantes in 2002 and has made 175 appearances for the 2009 Copa Libertadores champions.

The defender missed out on Diego Maradona's squad for the FIFA World Cup™ in
South Africa after injury ruled him out of key qualifiers against Colombia and Ecuador in the run-up to the tournament.
