Everton look likely to start the season without the services of Yakubu, even though the player himself thought that he would have been ready for the season opener against Arsenal.
The striker is to see a specialist in London with a view to talking through the final stage of the player’s rehabilitation. The Yak has been missing since picking up an Achilles injury at Tottenham last November.
Physio Mick Rathbone said: "To say he is touch and go is a fair assessment. He's probably a little bit ahead of schedule and we are pleased with him but it's a big step from being with me to actually starting a game in the Premier League so there is a bit of water to go under the bridge yet.
"He's doing really, really well but obviously he has had a really nasty injury. I'm going to London with him to see the consultant who I'm pretty sure will give us the go ahead to get him involved in the final stages of pre-season"

Its not his fault his Achilles has gone. Its oner of the worst in juries a player can get and is slow to heal because there isnt a natural bloody supply to the tendon.
Every player who tried hard gets injured at some point during the season. It seems to to me be a fact that bigger players get injured more basically because their bulk means they dont ride tackles as well or there is more stress on their joints.
Having said that every team needs someone with some "presence" and thats what he has when he plays taking opresuee off other players and creating space for them.
