One time Blues target Millwall defender Zak Whitbread has turned down the chance to discuss a new contract with the Lions so he has now been placed on the transfer list.

As well as a host of Championship clubs, there was also speculation that the 25 year old was being looked at by both Blackburn and Everton.

Its now unlikely that Everton would still be interested in the defender but Millwall want to cash in now before they lose him for nothing at the end of his current deal.

Lions managing director Andy Ambler said: "Zak has one year left on his current contract but has turned down our offer to discuss a new deal.

"As a result of that, Zak has been placed on the transfer list."
