Snippet: Everton in talks with Heitinga

Talks have begun between Everton and Johnny Heitinga after agreeing a £5 million fee with Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old Dutch international joined the Spanish club from Ajax last season and can play at right-back and centre-back.

Toffees manager David Moyes is keen to bolster his defence after losing Joleon Lescott to Manchester City.

Sylvain Distin arrived at Goodison Park from Portsmouth on Friday and Moyes is hopeful Heitinga will join him soon.

"We have not as yet agreed personal terms," said Moyes.

"I hope we will be able to do that soon, but we have not as yet concluded that part of the move."
