News: Baines looking for England place in World Cup

Everton defender Leighton Baines is hoping he can get back into the England Squad for next summer’s World Cup.

Baines was called up to the England squad following his good form last season, but did not manage to make his international debut.

Now as England prepare to face Slovenia and Croatia, Baines has been left out by Capello, but that will not stop the 24 year old who was capped 16 times for the under 21 squad trying.

"I've had a taste of the England squad so the World Cup finals are always at the back of your mind," said Baines to Sky Sports.

"I just have to play well and hope to impress the England coach."I am keen to get back into that. But that will only happen if my own form is good and the team continue to do well.

"Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge are probably the two automatic selections and with good reason, because they are two top players.

"At the moment I have got to get my form up and back to where I want it to be, like the rest of us here.

"Hopefully if I can get there the other things will take care of themselves."
