EVERTON MANAGER DAVID MOYES ADMITS WE DIDNT DESERVE ANYTHING FROM LAST NIGHTS MATCH.......
David Moyes challenged his side to qualify for next season's Europa League after watching them make an agonising exit from the competition after a 3-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon.
Second half goals from midfielders Miguel Veloso, Pedro Mendes and Matias Fernandez saw the Blues go down 4-2 on aggregate as their European hopes ended at the last 32 stage.
Moyes was understandably disappointed with the result but says his side must continue to fight to finish as high as possible in the Premier League.
"We will do our best but it's a long shot at the moment," he said after the match.
"Credit to Sporting, they were the better team and deserved to go through.
"We didn't get to the levels we got to in recent weeks. The idea was to get a goal and get the tie finished but Sporting started well and we found it difficult.
"We knew the first 20 minutes would be difficult. There was pressure throughout and we never had enough of the ball to make anything happen.
Moyes was able to take a slight positive from Phil Jagielka's return to action but he also has a worry over Philippe Senderos.
"We don't know how serious it is yet," he said of the Swiss.
"It was great to have Phil back. "He will help us towards the end of the season."
