EVERTON FINALLY OVERCOME A BATTLING BOLTON SIDE,GOALS FROM MIKEL ARTETA AND STEVEN PIENAAR LATE ON,MADE IT 7 WINS ON THE BOUNCE AT HOME IN THE LEAGUE...
Mikel Arteta lit up a gloomy spring afternoon with a beautifully flighted free kick 19 minutes from the end of this instantly forgettable game at Goodison Park yesterday.
Give Bolton Wanderers some credit though,they came here to frustrate the Blues and they looked as if they were going to do it until a break from a Bolton corner saw Steven Pienaar play a lovely through ball into Yakubu's path and he was brought down by Gretar Steinsson who was sent off for the professional foul and 'Mikel the Magician' did the rest,to the relief of the Goodison faithful.
Steven Pienaar slotted home with a couple of minutes to go and double the advantage after some lovely footwork from Leon Osman,who came on for the ineffective Yakubu.
The Blues moved above Birmingham City with this win,and with Aston Villa dropping points,it was crucial we got the 3points yesterday,as we now have 2 tricky away games coming up against City and Wolves.
We actually played some decent stuff yesterday at times and we should of really took the lead after about 5 minutes when the powerful Victor Anichebe forced his way into the area in acres of space but he spent to much time wandering were to put the ball and Paul Robinson was able to get back and clear,Anichebe didnt last too long after that after picking up a hip injury,it seems he's made of glass these days,i mean,he went down about 3 times last week against Birmingham.He was replaced by Diniyar Bilyaletdinov.
For all there possession though,the Blues just couldnt break down a well-drilled Bolton defence,plus in Kevin Davies,they have a great outlet and he caused Jags and Distin all sorts of problems,winning almost every header and his keeping of the ball with his strength and power.
In the end though,Everton's persistance paid off and it was down to our most skillful players to light up a damp miserable day at Goodison Park,with tricky trips to Eastlands and Molineux to come this week,lets hope next Sunday were talking about being a lot closer to them European positions in the league.
