Initial Signs Promising as Spurs are Despatched of

Boro fans may have the right to be that bit surprised by the ease of which we disposed of Tottenham at the Riverside this Saturday. Although the match finished 2-1 this score line perhaps does not do the team justice when considering that Tottenham’s consolation goal came in the form of an unlucky misplaced header from Robert Huth.

While some might argue that Spurs weren’t quite out the traps, and had surprisingly chose to place Berbatov and Ledley King on the bench this was nevertheless an emphatic Boro victory against a strong Tottenham side. Downing put in the assured performance in his preferred position that we all know he is capable of, but perhaps the stand out performance was that of young David Wheater - a surprise choice for the right-back role. Not only did Wheater perform his full-back duties exceptionally, but also got himself off the mark for the season with a well placed goal, and was very unlucky not to get himself another beforehand when he had been deemed to foul before the ball reached the net.

It was excellent to see Mido back in great shape, and also to get himself a goal to boost his confidence. Having Mido back is almost like having a new player in itself and he could be a very exciting impact player for us this season, adding another dimension to our play. With the capture of Justin Hoyte, who was unveiled at the match on Saturday, competition will hopefully be fruitful between the former Arsenal Academy player, and Tony McMahon. The Anfield game will be a tough test this weekend, however after witnessing the impressive team performance from the Boro against Spurs it would appear that we have a team with the ability to get something from the game, here's hoping anyway!
