Hull v Sunderland report

Hull took on Sunderland looking to extend their unbeaten run to 6 games have drawn 4 and won one of their last 5 games. Sunderland although in the relegation zone picked up a much need win last time out against fellow struggler's West Brom . It was a scrappy start to the game with alot of free kicks been given. The first chance of the game fell to Nick Barmby but he sent his shot well wide.

Sunderland took the lead on 10 minutes, A superb strike from 20 yards by Steed Malbranque, Danny Collins found him 20 yards out and the Frenchmen sent the shot past Myhill to make it 1-0. Hull were back in the game 9 minutes later when a long ball by Myhill was won in the air by Turner, He kept the ball in play which then rebounded off Nosworthy's knee and Barmby put the ball in from 6 yards. 1-1 game all square.

Hull then began to mount some pressure, first Barmby having a snap shot blocked by Ferdinand. Then Geovanni had a shot which was easy for Fulop in the Sunderland goal to deal with. Despite the Pressure Hull failed to make Fulop make any real save, Michael Turner sending a head over then marlon King sending a shot high and wide. On 32 Minutes Hull finally did work Fulop, Geovanni sending in a free kick which the keeper did well to tip over. 

Sunderland then had a chance of their own from a corner,which Jones sent wide.  Sunderland began to come back into the game after that chance and could have taken the lead for the second time when a Jones flick found Malbranque but his shot was just wide. A great half of football ended 1-1 with both sides having decent chances . Hull probably just shaded it in terms of Possession and pressure but it was Sunderland who had the best Chances.

Hull started the second half the brightest but neither side could get hold of the match.Sunderland had the first real chance has Myhill got down great to save from Richardson to hack the ball away. It was Hull who again began to pile pressure on the Sunderland rearguard, Barmby having an effort which he couldn't keep down. Sunderland broke moments later only for Jones to stab his shot wide under pressure from Turner. The game began to come Scrappy and The referee began to blow his whistle what seemed like every 30 seconds. Hull had the ball in the net for the Second time but the Flag went up for off side against Daniel Cousin, looking at the replays he was about half a yard offside.

On 77 minutes Sunderland took the lead for the second time of the game, Richardson let fly from a long way out and all Zayatte could do was deflect the ball into his own net. Two minutes late on Hull we're Reduced to 10 men Sam Ricketts sent off for a second bookable offence. No complaints from anybody about the decision. After the sending off it was all Sunderland, Cisse Shooting straight at Myhill. Sunderland then made it 3-1 , Malbranque sending in the cross for Kenwyne Jones to head the ball in from close range. Before Full time it was 4-1, Cisse Running onto a long ball and smashes the ball past Myhill.

A great Result for Sunderland the result may have Flattered them slightly but Hull weren't really at the races today. The result leaves Hull in 6th, Sunderland are now up to 12th.

Hull City manager Phil Brown:
"We're still ahead of schedule, we shouldn't forget that.

"Teams are hitting us on the counter-attack at home and with the pace of the Premier League that's always dangerous.

"But we're not desperate for a win, I definitely wouldn't say that. If we draw every game from now until the end of the season, we'd still stay up."

Sunderland stand-in boss Ricky Sbragia:
"I've not done myself any harm, but we'll see what happens.

"I'm enjoying it, it's beginning to feel nice, especially the winning. But what's important is that we got out of the bottom three and started winning.

"We've done those things and the players have taken responsibility, they have been fantastic for us."
