Panucci Deal Unlikely

By Tiger Tim
February 2 2009

A proposed deal for veteran defender Christian Panucci looks to be off after the defender opted to stay at Roma. The Tigers had started talks in an attempt to sign the defender before the close of the transfer window. Panucci was leave Roma following a recent bust-up with coach Luciano Spalletti.

The 35-year-old's agent Oscar Damiani expects the versatile stopper to stay at Roma due to the lack of time to finalise a transfer. Damiani also suggested that the offer from the Tigers was not good enough to tempt Panucci into a move to the KC Stadium.

"I really think Christian will remain at Roma and respect his contract," Damiani told LaRoma24.it.

"We have been unable to resolve the situation, which isn't entirely surprising as we had very few days at our disposal.

"We have not reached any agreement. The proposals we received were not considered valid for the player."
