The FAI and the SFA yesterday learnt that their joint bid to host the UEFA Euro 2008 Championships had failed. The winning nations were Austria and Switzerland, whos bid won on grounds of centrality, stadium quality, etc.
The Celtic bid, as the Ireland/Scotland bid hed become known as, did not make it past the first round, despite offering an extra half million seating capacity for all the games. This could have made UEFA extra money in the region of €10 million, but UEFA insist that money is no longer enough of a motivation.
More later, maybe.
