Should the Reds Sign a Goalkeeper in January?

The form of Adam Davies this season has led me to ask the question of whether or not we should sign another goalkeeper in January.

Whilst Davies is still young and has all the attributes to become a very good keeper, I think that it is vital that we bring a keeper in in January.

Davies has been at fault for a number of goals this season due to his poor decision making and what seems to be a bit of a confidence issue and I am worried that if we don’t act then it could be his mistakes that ultimately relegate us.

My hope with bringing another keeper in would either be to take the place of Davies and bring him on and improve him for the future or give him actual competition for the number one spot that might actually improve him so keeps the shirt himself.

I think giving Townsend some games would be too risky and we need an older more experienced keeper at this stage of the teams’ progress.

Championship survival is all that matters this season so if we have to go against our recruitment policy and sign an older goalkeeper then so be it. A contract until the end of the season would be more beneficial to the club in the long run if it were to keep us in the Championship.
