Cheltenham's Vincent linked with MK move

Reports in Gloucestershire have linked Cheltenham forward Ashley Vincent with a move to Milton Keynes, as the cash-strapped club, managed by Martin Allen, looked to cut the wage bill at Whaddon Road.

Vincent, 23, is a forward by trade but can also operate out wide, which would make him a useful option when the Dons go 4-5-1, as he should be able to fit into one of the positions taken by Jemal Johnson, Luke Chadwick and Jason Puncheon in a role just off a lone striker. He has scored six goals in all competitions this season from 21 starts, also making 13 substitute appearances.

Cheltenham manager Allen recently disclosed that Vincent had turned down the offer of a new contract from the club, and as he turns 24 before the expiry of his current deal, the Dons would not have to pay compensation to sign him in the summer. Vincent would initially join on loan with a view to a permanent deal, and this would usually mean the Dons paying a fee to take him early, but with Cheltenham in big financial trouble they may be happy just to get another player off the wage bill.
