Robby's reaction: Not taking our chances

Dons manager Roberto Di Matteo unsurprisingly rued his side's missed chances in their 0-1 loss to Millwall, but was also deeply unhappy with the "cheap" goal they conceded from a set-piece. Marc Laird bagged the only goal of the game for Millwall and Dons failed to reply.

There was certainly not a lot of Di Matteo's gameplan that could be criticised; using Jason Puncheon as a striker proved a good decision, and his side created chances while also staying tight at the back, for the most part. But poor finishing and lacklustre defending from a set-piece saw Millwall go home with all three points.

Speaking to the official website, Roberto said:

"We had chances to score again tonight, especially in the first 20 minutes, we had plenty of chances to put one or two in and we know we've got to take those.

"You're not going to get 10 chances against Millwall, so those ones that you do get you need to put in the net.

"Punch had a great chance with an open goal, Chadwick had a great shot that the 'keeper saved it and we had a few other crosses that we just didn't get to the end of it. We had a goal disallowed as well, I'm not sure if it was offside or something else, so plenty of positive stuff but you've got to take them.

"Millwall were sitting very deep, they had 10 bodies behind the ball so it was even more difficult. But we still kept going forward and had quite a few shots on target, put them under pressure and we just needed a little break to get to the end of a cross.

"We have to do better with the goal we conceded - conceding from a free-kick or a corner-kick is too cheap. I'm very disappointed to give a goal away like that."

Di Matteo also recognised that Millwall taking the lead was a turning point in the match, as the goal enabled them to defend their lead and frustrate the Dons after a bright opening 20 minutes from the home side.

"Once a team sits back with that many men behind the ball it's difficult to break them down, but the effort of the players was very good again tonight and it's just one set-piece that has cost us the game.

"It's down to us really, if we'd put one in early they would had to have come out a bit more, but scoring from the free-kick worked to their game plan - they were able to defend and didn't really come forward at all."

The pressure to pick up points is mounting on the Dons but Roberto says the team can only keep playing their football and hope the results start to follow.

"The pressure has been on from day one to be honest, so it's not as if anything changes, it won't be any different. We just have to keep going, try to pick up points and chase.

"We're all disappointed because we felt we could have got more from this game. I felt we did enough not to lose it.

"We were very hard done again tonight, I thought the team did enough going forward, we just have to defend better from set-pieces."
