Match Report: Yeovil Town v. Millwall

Just 3 days after convincingly beating Stockport 3-1, the Glovers hosted high flyers Millwall, consisting of two ex-Glovers Danny Schofield and Jon Obika.

The game began quickly, with just one minute on the clock when Danny Schofield picked out Shaun Batt who lashed wide from the edge of the box.

After quarter of an hour, Millwall had begun to show the onlooking crowd why they were fighting for promotion, showing some quality flowin moves.

However, Yeovil were matching the London side, and had the opening shot of the game when Shaun MacDonald found space before hitting a left footed shot straight into the arms of David Forde.

But Yeovil didn't have to wait long, when five minutes later the Glovers took the lead. Gavin Williams cleverly ran to the by line inside the box before pulling back to Dean Bowditch who made no mistake from close range reaching double figures for the season and 3 in 3. 1-0.

Just one minute later, it could have been two, when Gavin Williams cleverly spotted 'keeper Forde and tried a lob from out wide, with his effort falling just wide.

From then on the game became dominated by the Glovers, who continued to press. Andy Welsh was the next Yeovil player to try his luck with his effort being stopped at the second attempt by Forde.

Millwall were struggling to contain the flowing attacks from Yeovil, with Gavin Tomlin going close with a long range effort.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Millwall

Millwall made on substitution at half time, withdrawing Liam Trotter and replacing him with Scott Barron.

After Yeovil dominated the majority of the first half, Millwall began the second half with great vigour, searching for an early equaliser.

On the 52nd minute Millwall made their 2nd substitution replacing Neil Harris with Jon Obika- who received some boos. 

The game soon fell into a trend, with the lion share of possession falling to Millwall whilst Yeovil pressed and pressured excellently.

Yeovil looked to hit on the break, and nearly did so in style when Shaun MacDonald's superb run from half way resulted in a thunderous shot flying just wide of the post. However, the run did receive a standing ovation from some of the crowd.

A few minutes later Gavin Williams again showed his pedigree, when he again spotted Forde off his line and attempted a quick lob, again with the ball falling just wide.

Millwall went for broke, and replaced Shaun Batt with Chris Hackett.

Terry Skiverton's side were battling well, with the only alteration being the introduction of Aidan Downes instead in replacement of Andy Welsh.

Yeovil continued to defend superbly, and this had been rewarded with no attempts on goal from Millwall.

But, in the dying seconds of the game a standard ball into the box looked certain to be cleared, but 'keeper Alex McCarhy came out and got no where near the ball allowing Jon Obika to head into an empty net, stripping Yeovil of three points.

Terry Skiverton will be delighted with the point, but must be left pondering what could have been if McCarthy had again not successfully dominated his box. The Glovers face Southampton on Saturday and will be hoping for a repeat performance.
