Trialists galore as Yeovil go down to Swans

Yeovil Town began their home pre-season matches with a close fought battle against old rivals Swansea City.

Both teams began with almost full strength sides, with the Glovers giving new signings Paul Huntington and Andy Williams their first starts at Huish Park.

The Swans greater quality showed early on, with some fast flowing moves, which were rightfully rewarded after 6 minutes, when David Cotterill weaved through several challenges before firing past stand in 'keeper Ben Roberts. 

Pre-season is primarily about fitness and match sharpness, and the Glovers were able to match Swansea throughout large portions of the game, creating some meaningful chances themselves.

Most notably Dean Bowditch's diving header, which he diverted wide from 6 yards after a pin point ball from Andy Williams showing his versatility by playing out on the right wing.

Despite several chances being laid on for the strike partnership of Bowditch and Sam Williams, neither were able to convert.

Half time saw just two changes for the Glovers, with Adam Virgo replacing Stefan Stam in the centre of defence, and Richard Martin taking position between the sticks. 

The second half became a scrappy affair with both sides replacing a large amount of players.

Yeovil brought on trialists Kevin Lacroix, Craig Calver, Sam Hewson, Billy Knott and an unnamed trialist.

There were several good individual performances, most notably from Nathan Smith, and with the barrage of games to come, things are likely to improve significantly.
