Glovers Robbed by Robins

Yeovil Town have lost their final home pre-season match to local rivals Bristol City, slumping to a 3-1 defeat.

The Glovers began the game well, and soon had a goal to show for it, when Dean Bowditch was hauled to the ground by Kalife Cisse.

Sam Williams stepped up and calmly smashed the ball past Dean Gerken to take the lead. 1-0.

City responded well when John Akinde raced down the right flank before providing Ivan Sproule with an easy tap in to level the scores once more, all within fifteen minutes. 1-1.

The only substitution by Yeovil was the replacement of JP Kalala with Ed Upson. There was seemingly no injury, so just extra time for Upson.

And it was the substitute who came closest to retaking the lead when his 20 yard strike flew narrowly over.

After the break the Glovers made just two changes, introducing Nathan Smith for Nathan Jones and Andy Welsh for Dean Bowditch. Resulting in Luke Freeman shifting upfront from the left wing.

The second half became dominated by the visiting side, who began to show their superior class, and took the lead on the 59th minute.

Adam Virgo was harshly adjudged to have fouled David Clarkson in the box, who then pulled himself up to shoot past John Sullivan. 1-2.

Skiverton introduced Danny Hutchins for Luke Ayling before handing Rob Keirnan his debut playing at centre back replacing Paul Huntington.

The Robins nicked a flattering 3rd goal when Marlon Jackson smashed past John Sullivan whose efforts only touched it onto the bar before going in. 1-3.

So Yeovil finished their home pre-season matches with a lull, but will be pleased with the development of both fitness and match sharpness.

They travel to Torquay on Saturday, to hopefully return to winning ways.
