That's The Way To Do It!

After last weeks 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Notts County, the Glovers responded in perfect style with a 3-1 win over Tranmere Rovers.

Terry Skiverton made four changes to the side, with Andy Williams and Dean Bowditch returning after an ankle injury and throat infection respectively, whilst Gavin Williams and Shaun MacDonald came into the side, after joining on loan.

Two loan players needed to be left out of the squad due to Football League rules, a decision made easy by injuries to loan duo Cameron Stewart and Rob Kiernan.

The Glovers began with some style, taking the lead after just seven minutes. Ian Goodison's clearance cannoned off Gavin Williams which luckily fell to Dean Bowditch, who emphatically lobbed the 'keeper from some 30 yards, marking a spectacular goal. 1-0.

The additions of MacDonald and Gavin Williams seemed to have given the Glovers some much needed confidence, and they soon doubled their lead, when Andy Williams crossed over a left footed cross, which Andy Welsh headed in from 6 yards. 2-0.

With a comfortable 2-0 lead, the Glovers seemed to slow down the tempo slightly, remaining in full control over a shell shocked Tranmere.

It wasn't until the 27th minute that Yeovil got a deserved third, a goal largely credited to luck. Andy Williams pulled back a free kick to Dean Bowditch who fluffed his shot, which luckily fell to Paul Huntington, who couldn't miss from just a few yards. 3-0.

In a half which saw Tranmere record zero shots on target, Joe Collister at the other end was busy. Firstly Gavin Williams shot over from inside the box, before Andy Williams should have made it four, when he met a hoof from Adam Virgo, but he headed straight at the rooted Collister. 

Gavin Williams gave the Glovers some much needed creativity, and nearly netted when his goal bound shot was tipped round the post by Collister.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 3-0 Tranmere Rovers

At half time Terry Skiverton was in an unknown situation, with the game practically won.

The second period wasn't the pinnacle that the first half was, with Yeovil happy to sit on their three goal lead.

However, despite giving up more possession to Tranmere, they failed to create any chances, and didn't mount a shot on target until the 70th minute.

Yeovil were happy to keep possession when they could and hit Rovers on the break, with JP Kalala firing just over the bar with a fierce shot.

With the game won, Yeovil replaced Andy Williams for Luke Freeman, who looked to provide pace up front for Yeovil.

And it nearly paid off when Freeman found himself through on goal, but the strikers accuracy was off and he shot wide.

In the 92nd minute Tranmere gained a consolation goal, when Lucas Akins seemingly went down easily in the box after a challenge from Nathan Smith, resulting in a penalty.

Ian Thomas-Moore smashed in the spot kick, in practically their first meaningful shot on goal. 3-1.

The Glovers played out the final few minutes to earn a much needed win. Skiverton will have been thrilled with the first half performance, along with the performances of Gavin Williams and Shaun MacDonald. With several tough fixtures coming up, Yeovil will have to be on top form, something that was hinted at during the game versus Tranmere.
