Is Porter leaving Well?

Are we going to see Chris Porter leave Motherwell in the transfer window?

There has been much speculation surrounding the future of striker Chris Porter since the transfer window opened at the start of the month. Firstly there was interest from Hearts and then a bid of £200k was alledgedly accepted from Huddersfield.

Not surprisingly the big Englishman didn't fancy either of these, but today Well accepted another bid, this time over £400k from Cardiff City. It looked as though this would go through as the papers reported he was on his way to Ninian Park for a medical.

Now tonight we hear that he has pulled out of this move until after the weekend as he doesn't want to move to South Wales as this is still too far away from his family (as was Dundee in the summer of 2006!).

The good news is he will be available to play against Hibs, but will his mind be on the game, or will he want to make a fond farewell, only Saturday will tell.

I always have mixed feelings about these sales in the transfer window (a la Pearson), I know we could lost the transfer fee but we could also lose £400k by slipping down the League not making a cup run.

It maybe also shows how poor our finances are at the moment that we need to sell our top scorer for £200k, as the Huddersfield bid was reported.

Hopefully if he does go McGhee has a replacement lined up as I am not sure Sutton is the man for the job....
