Can Well move into top six?

A point against Celtic on Sunday can see Motherwell move back into the top six.

After today’s results, with Hibs losing to Inverness, Motherwell know that if they can take at least a point against Celtic on Sunday they will move above Hibs and a point clear of Hamilton as well.

To do that we will need to play much better than we did on Thursday in the dismal cup tie defeat to Hibs.

Mark McGhee is forced to make one change for the game with Cillian Sheridan having to sit this one out as part of his loan agreement with Celtic. This should see John Sutton start up front alongside David Clarkson.

Although in recent weeks Mark McGhee has made some strange team selections and he could go for some form of 4-3-3 which may see Darren Smith replace Sheridan and play with two wide men supporting Clarkson.

This would mean a midfield three of Klimpl, Hughes and Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick has taken much stick from Well fans of late, much of it unfairly in my opinion as he does a decent job wide on the left by doing the “dirty” work many don’t want to undertake.

There is a clamour among fans to bring back Keith Lasley, I admire Lasley who is a busy player but that can often be confused with the role he is sent out to do. At times I think Lasley is a busy fool by running into all the wrong spaces.

There is no doubt we will have to be at our best to take three points tomorrow but I don’t think it is beyond us, particularly if we grab the first goal.
