Motherwell secured 7th spot with a point in a 2-2 draw with Inverness tonight.
Terry Butcher returned to Fir Park for the first time since leaving in the summer of 2006, this time he was in charge of Inverness Caley Thistle. His new side started the game well and there were early chance for Imrie and Munro but Well slowly got into the game after these early scares.
Well deservedly took the lead after 27 minutes when a Hammell corner was headed past Fraser by McLean at the front post. Inverness were level before the break, Imrie nutmegged Hammell before picking out Morais who left Smith helpless.
Inverness started the second half the better side and is was their turn to take a deserved lead, when Imrie smashed home a cross from Djebi=Zadi. This looked to have secured the visitors SPL football for a 6th consecutive season.
But it wasn't to be as nerves seemed to get the better of them and Motherwell bagged an equaliser with 11 minutes left. Clrakson's cross from the goal line was flicked on by Klimpl into the path of John Sutton who swept the ball high into the net.
Motherwell did enough to deserve a point over the 90 minutes and were happy to secure seventh as Manager Mark McGhee said after the game,
"That's the best we could do after the split, we have got to be pleased with that with only two more to go, and we need to see if we can stay unbeaten.
"I was reasonably pleased with the way we played, we were comfortable at one nil and I was a bit disappointed that we ended up going behind after having a lead but I thought it was a fair result."
