McGhee future now decided

Today's papers seem to confirm that boss Mark McGhee's future lies at Pittodrie and not at Fir Park, let's hope things move quickly in the next few days.

As usual with McGhee he uses the media to look after his own interests and showing little respect to the club he is leaving behind.

Look at these;

Aberdeen EVening Express:"If I am not at Motherwell at the start of the season, someone else will come in and get on with the job, so the Motherwell players will be fine.

"I am just waiting to see what happens."

The Sunday Herald; "There is compensation to agree but the talks were encouraging," said McGhee last night. "For me, there is an element of sentimentality attached to the Aberdeen job. This is an opportunity to manage a club where I had fantastic success and memories as a player. The same would have applied at Celtic. So there is an element of going home' about the Aberdeen job for me and I quite like that."

There is also a suggestion that he will take Stephen Hughes with him, which is fine as he is out of contract. But to compound that he is meant to be interested in taking Daid Clarkson for £300000! Surely a current Scotland International must be worth more than that.

I do think John Boyle has been clever in this whole saga up until now, he has kept quiet about everything - no bluster about keeping hold of his manager no matter what. He has probably decided that paying a manager a reported £200k/year to finsih 7th and fail in both cups isn't worht the money.

We can only hope he has been in the market sounding out potential replacements in the last two weeks as he will surely have known the mercenary McGhee was always going to leave this summer.

McGhee did give us one excellent season and led the club well through the Phil O'Donnell crisis but his constant touting for other jobs always left a sour taste in the mouth.
