With Mark McGhee almost certain to turn up at Pittodrie in the next few days, it is now up to Motherwell Chairman John Boyle to make the right decision for the club in the next few days.
Boyle has allowed McGhee to talk to Aberdeen but he said today, "Contrary to media reports, nothing has been finalised as yet and we obviously hope we can persuade Mark to stay.
"However, we will be pro-active in preparing for all eventualities to ensure that the best interests of Motherwell Football Club are upheld."
This is a fine statement from the head man but it is unlikley McGhee will resist the opportunity to head north to one of his former sides but hopefully Boyle will live up to his last sentence.
Pre-season training begins less than two weeks from now, with the first Europa tie up on July 2nd, although you could argue this should now be written off and we should be preparing for the League campaign.
So far the list of potentail new managers isn't too exciting, Gary McAllister is unlikely to too come back to Fir Park, and Gordon Chisholm and Ian McCall don't stir the imagination.
While there is also the excitement of the potential of Well legend Luc Nijholt making a return after some success in Dutch football - hopefully it will be tied up in the net few days no matter who it is!
